Teen dead after argument prompts shooting by 14-year-old, SAPD says

  

SAN ANTONIO – An argument between two teenagers turned deadly after a shot was fired late Wednesday evening, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday at an apartment complex on the West Side near Agatha Street and San Carlos.

According to police, one of the teenagers, 14, was allegedly talking about the 16-year-old victim’s deceased mother before a fight broke out.

At some point during the fight, the suspect pulled a gun and fired at the other teen, hitting the victim in the abdomen, according to a preliminary report from SAPD.

The suspect fled the scene, but police arrested him shortly after, according to SAPD.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. However, he later died, according to SAPD’s report.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim on Thursday morning as Joel Castillo.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
