Disgruntled Longhorn fans throw beer cans, water bottles and more on the field, causing delay in game against Georgia

The protest caused a delay for a few minutes.

AUSTIN, Texas — A questionable pass interference penalty during the third quarter of the Longhorns’ game against Georgia caused quite an uproar at Darrell K. Royal Stadium in Austin.

With under three minutes to go in the quarter, Georgia QB Carson Beck threw a comeback route to the left side of the field and it was picked off by cornerback Jahdae Barron — but a flag was thrown.

The refs came out and said it was pass interference. However, while reviewing the play, ESPN commentators Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler seemed to believe both Barron and the intended receiver were just hand-fighting — and the fans thought so too.

Shortly after the refs announced the questionable penalty, fans began launching beer cans, water bottles and any other kind of debris they could get their hands on.

One endzone was littered with trash as the game was delayed. Cheerleaders and staff were seen quickly cleaning up the mess which took a few minutes to clean up.

During this clean-up time, the refs were apparently still discussing the penalty and they came out once again, but this time to call off the pass interference penalty — a very rare instance of a call correction.

This correction obviously caused an uproar on the opposite end of the field as Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart could be seen yelling, demanding an explanation.

A strange series of events in a game that is getting more and more interesting.
