2 men accused of carjacking victim at gunpoint, leading officers on chase, SAPD says

  

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Two men were arrested after robbing a person of a vehicle at gunpoint and leading officers on a chase, according to San Antonio police.

Officers responded to a robbery around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Austin Highway.

A person was sitting in a Ford Explorer outside a store, waiting for his family, when two men approached him. Police said the two men, who are both 22 years old, robbed the person of the vehicle and fled from the scene.

Officers notified SAPD robbery detectives of the incident. The detectives were able to track the Ford Explorer to an apartment complex on the North Side of San Antonio on Harry Wurzbach Road, police said.

The robbery detectives began surveillance of the Ford Explorer and noticed the vehicle leave the apartment complex.

Police said the detectives began following the Ford Explorer and contacted officers to perform a traffic stop. When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, SAPD said the driver sped off and started a chase.

The two men fled in the vehicle north on Farm to Market 1518 before crashing it into a Toyota Corolla at the FM-1518 and Lower Seguin Road intersection, police said.

According to SAPD, the man who was the passenger of the Ford Explorer ran from officers with a gun in his hand. Police said he pointed the firearm at officers.

Two officers fired gunshots toward the man but ended up striking the Ford Explorer, SAPD said. The gunfire struck nobody.

Police said both men were arrested shortly after without further incident. They face charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest.

According to SAPD, one of the officers who fired their weapon has six months of service, while the other has around two years.

There were no injuries reported.

The Schertz Police Department said a section of FM 1518 at Lower Seguin Road was closed as a result of the chase.
