Vice President Kamala Harris was reportedly heckled and booed by several Donald Trump supporters who crashed her rally in Houston, Texas on Friday. The current Democratic candidate was there as part of a final stretch of campaign stops in order to reach voters before the upcoming election.
Harris was greeted by a very enthusiastic crowd which only seemed to grow as she began to speak. The commotion left Harris reportedly trying to keep command of her event.
“I love that there is so much enthusiasm, but let’s talk about the work that we have to do, because we’ve got 11 days to see this through, and we will win,” she said. According to the Associated Press, moments later, a man was escorted out by security.
According to the outlet, Harris’ speech was interrupted four more times over the course of 10 minutes. “You know what, the beauty of our campaign is we’re fighting for democracy,” Harris said after one of the protesters, who was shouted down by her crowd, had been escorted away by security.
“Many of these bans are causing care to be denied until a woman is at death’s door,” Harris said, talking about various anti-abortion policies she said had been spear-headed by “extremist leaders.” This is not the first time that one of Harris’ rallies has been interrupted by a supporter of the former president.
Last week, while she was speaking in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Harris found her speech being overtaken by a very passionate Trump supporter. Speaking to a crowd at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Recreational Eagle Center about abortion, Harris accused Trump of allegedly gaslighting women over their reproductive rights.
“Remember Donal Trump hand selected three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would undo the protections of Roe vs. Wade,” Harris said as sounds of rumbling came from another section of the arena, The Independent reported. “And they did as they intended,” said the vice president mere seconds before one person started chanting, “Lies! Lies! Lies!” and a second person also shouted at Harris.
The unfazed presidential candidate then gracefully took down her opponent’s supporters by saying “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally,” said Harris, who added, “I think you were meant to go to the smaller one down the street, come on.” Harris was joined in the Lone Star state by music icon, Beyonce who performed and introduced Harris alongside her Destiny’s Child bandmate and childhood friend Kelly Rowland.
“It’s time to sing a new song. A song that began 248 years ago. The old notes of downfall, discord, despair no longer resonate. Our moment right now,” the singer said in her opening. “It’s time for America to sing a new song. Our voices sing a chorus of unity.”
It was initially speculated by TMZ that the muti-Grammy Award winner was going to perform at the Democratic National Convention in August right before Harris accepted the nomination, however, the rumors turned out to be false, and it was Pink and her daughter Willow performed “What About Us” while country group The Chicks gave their rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
TMZ later issued an apology. “To quote the great Beyonce: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down … we got this one wrong,” they said in a post on X.
