Country icon Loretta Lynn’s grandson lists $7 million mansion in North Texas

The grandson of country legend Loretta Lynn is selling his North Texas lakeside mansion for just shy of $7 million.

Set on two acres, the 10,000-square-foot home is on the shores of Lake Grapevine in a gated community in Flower Mound. The home, 2005 Bayshore Drive, includes a wing dedicated to the primary suite, vaulted ceilings and more than 5,000 trees, shrubs and perennials. The sale price is $6.95 million.

Ethan Lyell, one of Lynn’s more than two dozen grandchildren, purchased the home in 2020 and spent $5.5 million remodeling it to “evoke the charm of a classic English manor,” according to the home’s listing.

Perhaps the most unique part of the home is a “puppy condo,” a storage space Lyell and his partner converted into individual apartments for their five dogs — two Dachshunds, two Jack Russels and a Great Pyrenees, according to Mansion Global.

“We wanted to build something where the pups had their own space,” Lyell told the real estate publication. “They have their pillows and blankets with a big window that looks out into the garden, and they have their own television. They’re very spoiled.”

Originally built in 1998, the six-bedroom home also includes two game rooms, two connected kitchens, and a gym with big windows overlooking the yard, the outlet wrote. Lyell told Mansion Global he was drawn to the home’s layout and cozy nooks. Outside the home is a pool, multiple lounge areas and an irrigated garden.

“They basically took a tennis court and turned it into a planter box farm with its own sprinkler system with it,” listing agent Damon Williamson told Mansion Global. “It’s all irrigated with a fire pit in the middle.”

Lyell, a financial executive at a medical company, is one of 26 grandchildren of Lynn, a country music star who died in 2022 at the age of 90. Lynn was the daughter of a miner who married at 15 and began her music career as a mother of four. She was known for hits like “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’.” In 1972, she became the first woman to receive Country Music Awards’ Entertainer of the Year designation.

Mementos to the country star can be found around the house, including some of the musician’s guitars and original albums, the listing agents told the outlet. As for himself, Lyell said he “can’t carry a tune in a bucket.”

During summer breaks in junior high and high school, Lyell said he used to join his grandmother on tour, but before then she was just “Memaw” to him. “I don’t think I realized when I was a kid what she had accomplished,” he told Mansion Global. “She was like any other grandmother. She was in the kitchen making peanut butter fudge for us while we were out playing in the yard.”
