Meet the donors fueling $1M+ state House races in San Antonio

There’s no question that Republicans will retain control of the Texas House next legislative session — they hold an 86-63 seat majority in a state where only a handful of races are considered politically competitive.

Yet millions of dollars are flowing from both parties to influence two San Antonio-area state House races that could still shape the direction of the lower chamber on school vouchers and a contentious House leadership fight.

Campaign finance reports due Monday indicated state Rep. John Lujan (R-San Antonio) and his Democratic challenger, Kristian Carranza, each raised close to $1.5 million this past month for their campaigns to represent House District 118 on San Antonio’s South Side.
