GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A new affordable housing complex broke ground in Grand Prairie marking a significant step in providing affordable housing in Tarrant County.

The development, known as Alice Court, will provide 10 affordable three-bedroom homes, offering essential support to families in need. It’s being built south of downtown Grand Prairie.

Mayor Ron Jensen emphasized the importance of Alice Court in addressing the city’s housing needs.

“Access to affordable housing is essential for a thriving community,” Mayor Jensen said. “Alice Court not only addresses a critical need but also represents a significant investment in the future of Grand Prairie.”

People earning less than 80% of the median income in Grand Prairie will have the opportunity to purchase one of the homes at an affordable price. For example, with a median income of approximately $76,000 in Grand Prairie, a family earning less than $60,800 (80% of $76,000) could qualify, the city said in a news release.

Construction is expected to take at least a year, with city officials planning for families to begin moving in by late 2025.

Alice Court was made possible through a blend of county and federal funding, the city said.

“This development is dear to my heart as we have been working hard on this shared vision to bring more affordable and achievable housing options to our residents in Grand Prairie,” said City Manager Bill Hills.

The groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated by local officials, Dallas County, the Grand Prairie Community Housing Development Organization, Hope 4 All and the Housing Channel.
