WATCH: Scott Jennings’ Eulogy For P’Nut the Squirrel Is the Pre-Election Day Palate Cleanser We All Need

P’Nut the squirrel has become the political icon, legend and martyr that the insane 2024 election season didn’t know it needed, but got anyway.

As RedState has been reporting, P’Nut was an internet star who regularly appeared in social media posts made by his “dad,” Mark Longo, who documented their everyday life adventures. That was, until a busybody neighbor allegedly informed authorities in Longo’s home state of New York that he was keeping animals prone to rabies as pets. Egads!

That’s when the government intervened and made P’Nut a political martyr. From our own Bob Hoge:

But was there any need for NY State to step in and kill this guy’s pet? You be the judge:

Peanut the Squirrel, of internet fame, has been euthanized after the pet was seized by New York state earlier this week, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The seven-year-old gray rescue squirrel, commonly referred to as “P’Nut” on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, was put to death, along with Fred the raccoon, so that the animals could be tested for the presence of rabies, according to a statement from the agency obtained by WETM.

Literally – why?!

Why indeed? Some say P’Nut symbolizes everything that is at stake in the 2024 presidential election:

The seizure and killing of P’nut and Fred by jackbooted bureaucrats was Big Government overkill reminiscent of the FBI’s armed raids on Donald Trump supporters and pro-life Christians — an undercurrent of this campaign. While murderers and rapists are set free to roam the country, the full might and power of the government will come down like a hammer on good citizens and their innocent pets.

Very, very 2024, but not wrong at all.

CNN commentator Scott Jennings, as always, used humor to bring light to the injustices visited upon P’Nut and his brother pet, Fred the raccoon. It’s the pre-Election Day palate cleanser we all need:

Scott Jennings delivers the goods every time. I can’t be the only one who’s thrilled he’s on our side; his humorous approach to politics is the perfect antidote to the sour-faced, uber-serious Democrat Party.

Here’s the transcript of Jennings’ eulogy:

Well, I’m here tonight to speak on behalf of P’Nut the squirrel, God rest his tiny soul. Not since the squirrel that was taught to waterski has a squirrel caught the nation’s attention like this one.

Now, this squirrel was squirrel-napped and murdered by the state of New York, an absurd abuse of government overreach. There are 40 million rats or something in New York and they execute the only one trained to wear a cowboy hat and had an Instagram account.

My condolences to Mark Longo, who cared for P’Nut for seven years.

And to the cowardly neighbors who filed the complaint about Mr. Longo’s animals, which also included Fred the raccoon, I ask: Why are you the way that you are? I hope you’re happy, you monsters.

RIP, P’Nut.
