AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several restaurants in the Central Texas area were named in the first MICHELIN Guide Texas list, which was announced at a ceremony in Houston Monday night.
The MICHELIN Guide Texas selection featured 15 one-MICHELIN-Star establishments and two MICHELIN Green Star eateries. The full selection listed 117 restaurants spanning 26 cuisine types across the state. It also included Bib Gourmand restaurants and Recommended eateries, according to a release from MICHELIN.
Whether they were One MICHELIN Star, a MICHELIN Green Star, or a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, Austin was put in the spotlight.
These Austin restaurants were listed as One MICHELIN Star establishments, per the MICHELIN Guide:
- Barley Swine; contemporary cuisine
- Craft Omakase; Japanese cuisine
- Hestia; American cuisine
- InterStellar BBQ; barbecue cuisine
- la Barbecue; barbecue cuisine
- Leroy and Lewis Barbecue; barbecue cuisine
- Olamaie; American cuisine
Two Austin restaurants were given a MICHELIN Green Star, which recognizes restaurants “at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices,” according to MICHELIN.
The MICHELIN Guide website said Green Star restaurants “offer dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments and are a source of inspiration both for keen foodies and the hospitality industry as a whole.”
The Austin restaurants that were given a Green Star are below:
- Dai Due; American cuisine
- Emmer & Rye; American cuisine
Several restaurants in Austin were listed as the MICHELIN Bib Gourmands, as announced by the company on Monday.
Bib Gourmand establishments are “restaurants that offer the best value for money,” the company said in a news release.
Everything from barbecue to Mexican cuisine landed the list in Texas, per the MICHELIN Guide:
- Briscuits; barbecue cuisine
- Cuantos Tacos; Mexican cuisine
- Distant Relatives; barbecue cuisine
- Emmer & Rye; American cuisine
- Franklin Barbecue; barbecue cuisine
- Kemuri Tatsu-ya; Izakaya cuisines
- KG BBQ; barbecue cuisine
- La Santa Barbacha; Mexican cuisine
- Micklethwait Craft Meats; barbecue cuisine
- Nixta Taqueria; Mexican cuisine
- Odd Duck; American cuisine
- Ramen del Barrio; fusion cuisine
- Veracruz Fonda & Bar; Mexican cuisine
Barbs B Q (barbecue cuisine) in Lockhart also made the list, the company said.
Other cities in Texas with restaurants that received a Bib Gourmand were Bellaire, Dallas, Fort Worth, Pearland, San Antonio, Seguin, Spring and Tomball.
“Our anonymous Inspectors were impressed by the culinary community across the state of Texas,” Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, said in a media release. “The selection reflects their findings by highlighting uniquely Texas flavors, such as Barbecue and Tex-Mex, as well as several international influences. We are very honored to welcome these restaurants to the MICHELIN Guide family for the first time and we toast to the tremendous spirit of the Texas restaurant community!”
