Projection season is in full effect and things are getting hairy.
DALLAS — A bye week for SMU came with a price — it cost them one spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings that were rele ased Tuesday.
The Mustangs now sit in the No. 14 spot, which makes them the second team left out of the playoff.
This setback, however, wasn’t SMU’s fault. Ole Miss leaped to No. 11 after a dominant win over third-ranked Georgia over the weekend, pushing SMU down a slot.
Notably, the Miami Hurricanes remained in the top 10 despite losing to a 6-4 Georgia Tech.
If you’re confused about how the Hurricanes could possibly still be ahead of the Mustangs despite SMU’s only loss coming early in the season to a now-No. 6 BYU team — don’t worry, we are too.
SMU currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Mustangs look poised to make a run for the ACC Championship and perhaps challenge the CFP Committee’s Week 11 assessment.
However, until then — the Mustangs will have to keep their heads down and battle.
