WINONA, Texas — Due to power outages, Winona and Big Sandy ISDs have released students early Tuesday morning.
Winona ISD Superintendent Damenion Miller said parents have been asked to pick up their children as soon as possible. Buses will be available between 10 to 11 a.m.
In a Facebook post, Big Sandy ISD said their students have been released early as well due to an extended power outage.
“Buses will begin running their regular routes. If it appears that our elementary students don’t have anyone at home, they will be brought back to the school until a parent can pick them up. Students who don’t ride the bus can be picked up as soon as possible. We are sorry for this inconvenience. All athletic events are still scheduled as planned. Any changes to that will be released as soon as possible,” BSISD said.
According to an outage map from SWEPCO, there are 818 outages in the Winona area that started at 8:50 a.m. Crews are assessing the condition and there is no estimated restoration at this time.
