BREAKING: Equivocal death of a three-year-old girl; investigation launched in south Texas

   

DONNA, Texas — Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a three-year-old girl found unresponsive in rural Donna. The child was pronounced dead at Edinburg Children’s Hospital after suffering extensive injuries indicative of prolonged abuse.

The child’s mother, 25-year-old Wendy Rivera, admitted to knowing about the injuries and failing to report them, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Rivera has been arrested and charged with Failure to Report a Felony and remains in custody. Investigators are currently searching for the child’s father, 23-year-old Jose Manuel Uresti, who is wanted for questioning.
