“I am so proud of the heroism of these three officers and them putting service above self,” Chief Kevin Schutte said.
TEXARKANA, Texas — Three East Texas police officers are being called heroes Saturday after helping save the life of a special needs resident during a house fire.
Around 12:30 a.m., Texarkana Texas Police Department officers Kevin Buck, Kevin Cornelius and Ty Ford responded to a house fire on Knotty Pine.
When police arrived on scene, they were told a special needs resident was trapped in a back bedroom unable to get out of bed.
“With smoke quickly filling the home and the fire department still on the way, these officers didn’t hesitate for a second,” the TTPD said. “They ran into the home and were able to eventually get the resident out through a window and to safety.”
The officers were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. The TTPD says they’re doing well and were able to complete their shifts.
“I am so proud of the heroism of these three officers and them putting service above self,” Chief Kevin Schutte said. “Their quick thinking and selfless actions saved this person’s life. Once again, our officers have demonstrated one team ‘Exhibiting Excellence Every Day.'”
