CASTROVILLE, Texas – (UPDATE at 9:08 p.m.): Castroville residents can breathe a sigh of relief as authorities determined that a suspicious package was not a danger to the public.
The San Antonio Police Department’s Bomb Squad Unit assisted with the investigation.

Technicians with SAPD’s Bomb Squad Unit took an X-ray of the package and came to the conclusion that it needed to be detonated, according to Castroville police.
Police cited visual images inside the package as an area of concern.
Eventually, the package was detonated. Castroville police said there was not any explosive material recovered from the scene. However, some evidence was collected.
ORIGINAL STORY: Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a suspicious package in Castroville.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to avoid the area in the 1100 block of westbound U.S. Highway 90.
The sheriff’s office said there would be loud banging noises in the area of the package.
The Castroville Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department’s Bomb Squad Unit are also at the scene.
U.S. Highway 90 and several other nearby roads are closed for the time being, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities recommend taking an alternate route to avoid the area.
