DALLAS — A new airline is coming to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Avelo Airlines will offer what it calls an exclusive nonstop route to Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), starting March 7.

The route will operate twice a week, on Fridays and Mondays, according to an announcement from Avelo on Monday. The service will use a Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.

The Tweed-New Haven Airport is located just off the southern coast of Connecticut, near New Haven, which is the home of Yale University. The airport is about 40 miles from Hartford, Conn., and 80 miles from Manhattan.

DFW Airport currently only offers Connecticut service to Hartford.

Avelo is taking flight reservations for the DFW service on its website.

“This service makes visiting Southern Connecticut, and everything the greater New England and New York regions have to offer, easier than ever,” Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy said. “We also look forward to making DFW’s thriving culinary scene, sports mecca and vibrant nightlife a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut travelers.”

Avelo launched as a airline in April 2021. It has services to 54 cities across 24 states and Puerto Rico, and it flies internationally to Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
