Texas Longhorns standouts named to All-SEC team

  

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns had quite the campaign in its inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference. Steve Sarkisian’s group made the conference championship game and the College Football Playoff.

While the Longhorns gear up for their first round playoff game hosting Clemson, the accolades have begun to roll in. Seven Texas players were named Tuesday to the All-SEC teams.

Offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and defensive back Jahdae Barron headline the list for Texas as the first-team honorees. Banks is a finalist for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation’s best interior lineman. Barron was a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy, given to the nation’s best defensive player.

Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers finds himself on the second team. In his third year in the program, Ewers threw for 2,665 yards and 25 touchdowns. Ewers is also a finalist for the Manning Award.

Gunnar Helm was also on the All-SEC second team for offense. Helm shined in his first year leading the tight end room with a team-high 49 catches.

Sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill lands on the second team as well. Hill leads Texas in tackles, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.

Running back Quintrevion Wisner and defensive back Andrew Mukuba earned spots on the third team. Wisner has taken over the Longhorns running back room and leads the team with 912 yards. Mukuba, a transfer from Clemson, tallied 62 tackles and four interceptions in burnt orange.

The Longhorns will get back in action on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. as they’ll host Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Texas Gameday is the official pregame show of Texas football and will air at 2 p.m. on gameday on KBVO.
