BREAKING NEWS: Plane crash in the intersection of Zac Lentz Parkway and Mockingbird

   

UPDATE: Five people were involved in the incident, and three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person was transferred to an out-of-town hospital for higher-level trauma care. 3 vehicles were involved VPD has not released the names of the people involved, as the Texas Department of Public Safety has taken the lead on the investigation.

The intersection will be closed until further notice, and VPD will be providing traffic updates on their Facebook page. Signage will be in place for school traffic in the morning. 

VICTORIA, Texas – A twin-engine Piper PA-31 airplane has crash in the intersection of Zac Lentz Parkway and Mockingbird at approximately 3 p.m. striking multiple vehicles.  

The twin piston Navajo plane took off from Victoria Regional Airport at 9:52 a.m. and began circling the area, gaining and losing altitude. The highest reported altitude was 14,000 feet, and the lowest was 10,000 feet over a four-hour period.

Around 2 p.m., the plane took a dramatic decrease in altitude. It lost contact with air traffic control at 2:57 p.m.

The plane was in flight for one hour yesterday and was also in flight on Monday. It is registered to MARC Inc., an oil and gas utility surveyor based in Hinds County, Mississippi. The company specializes in surveillance projects across the United States.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. 

The VPD has not released information about injuries, casualties, or the number of vehicles involved. 

Victoria Police Department is on the scene redirecting traffic. 

VPD advises to avoid the area. 

Victoria Independent School District has released a statement advising bus routes are being adjusted to avoid the area and parents picking up students are going to experience a delay. No school activities are being impacted.
