VICTORIA, Texas – A twin-engine Piper Navajo PA-31-350 plane crashed into three vehicles at a Victoria, Texas, intersection.
The plane crashed around 3 p.m. Wednesday on the Zac Lentz Parkway access road where the road intersects with Mockingbird Lane in Victoria.
According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), only the pilot was on board when it collided with the vehicles.
During a Wednesday news conference, Victoria police confirmed that five people were involved in the crash. One person was taken to an out-of-town hospital where they are receiving high-level trauma care. Three people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The fifth person — the pilot of the plane — is also being evaluated, but authorities have not disclosed their condition at this time.
Police said the intersection, located near Victoria East High School, will be closed until further notice. Signage will be posted in the area that will direct school traffic in time for Thursday morning classes.
According to the Victoria Advocate, the plane departed from Victoria Regional Airport at 9:52 a.m. on Wednesday and was last detected around 2:57 p.m.
During its Wednesday flight, KAVU reported that the plane reached a maximum altitude of 14,000 feet. Around 2 p.m., the plane’s altitude decreased exponentially.
According to the FAA’s online database, the plane belonged to a company called MARC, Inc. in Bolton, Mississippi.
Multiple agencies — including the FAA, the National Transportation Safety Board, the Texas Department of Public Safety and local agencies — are investigating the cause of the crash.
Authorities said the identities of those impacted by the crash have not been confirmed.
