AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) — A Colorado-based tech services and call center provider plans to lay off about 650 people from two of its Austin offices early next year. The moves come as the state transitions its TxTag toll billing and customer service operations to the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
TTEC Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: TTEC), which had been running the billing and customer service operations, said its government solutions division is ending its Texas Department of Transportation program at the TxTag Toll Operations Center at 2420 Ridgepoint Drive in Northeast Austin, resulting in the layoffs.
The company made the announcement in a recent notice to the Texas Workforce Commission and Mayor Kirk Watson required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which mandates that employers alert local governments to large job cuts.
The company also noted that a smaller team of six employees at its 12719 Burnet Road location, which is a TxTag customer service office, also will be laid off.
