This year was another massive year for growth and development in North Texas.
DALLAS — This year was another massive year of growth in North Texas.
These are some of the biggest developments that were announced and got underway in 2024.
Communities along Lake Texoma, a popular playground for visitors from Dallas-Fort Worth, saw some of the buzziest development announcements of the year.
Preston Harbor, a $6 billion, 2,200-acre mixed-use development planned in Denison on the Texas side of the lake, will include a Margaritaville resort, luxury single- and multi-family homes, restaurants, an upscale marina and more. Construction on major infrastructure for the development is set to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
On the Oklahoma side of the lake, a $2 billion community anchored by a Hard Rock Hotel began infrastructure construction in November.
This year was a big year for Walsh Ranch in far west Fort Worth, which is one of the largest developments underway in the country within 12 minutes of a major city center.
This year Walsh, which is west of downtown Fort Worth where I-20 and I-30 merge, added hundreds of new homes and a new early education center. In the coming years, it will be the site of a new University of Texas at Arlington campus, dubbed UTA West, on 51 acres of property set to begin welcoming students in 2028. Washington Bank also announced plans to build an eight-story tower and headquarters in the development.
The $3 billion project to rebuild and expand the Kay Bailey Hutchison convention center downtown began this year and will expand not only Memorial Arena, but also the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. The project is expected to have an estimated $6 billion economic impact and Dallas officials expect to complete construction in 2029.
Construction on the massive sports and entertainment district in Mansfield, including a 7,000-square-foot multi-purpose stadium, a hotel and conference center, retail and more, began this year. The site will be anchored by a 7,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, which will be managed by FC Dallas and REV Entertainment. FC Dallas, the Hunt family-owned Major League Soccer team that plays home matches at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, will assist in design and construction of the stadium. The stadium is expected to open in 2026.
The $630 million expansion is expected to add about 300,000 square feet of commercial space to the Stockyards and could include new hotels, a multifamily community, two underground garages and more.
