Nonprofit honors local veteran with new roof this holiday season

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio hero received a heartfelt gift this holiday season as a sign of gratitude for his years of service.

Steven Montalbo, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputy, received a free roof thanks to Frontline Heroes Outdoors, a nonprofit organization that supports veterans, active-duty military personnel and first responders.

The organization said gifts like this are a way to give back to those who have spent their lives protecting and serving others.

For Montalbo, who has deep roots in the military community, the gesture was especially meaningful.

“It’s a military community. I was born and raised here. My dad was a Vietnam veteran, my grandfather was a WWII veteran, and this is just amazing. This is Military City, USA. I’m very humbled by it,” Montalbo said.

Over more than three decades with BCSO, he served as a mental health deputy, assisting both veterans and residents.

Frontline Heroes Outdoors partnered with ARP Roofing & Remodeling, GAF, and Southern Shingles for the project.
