LSU has landed another NCAA Transfer Portal commitment from an SEC roster, this time reeling in a player from the Texas Longhorns.
Texas defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell entered the transfer portal and made just one visit: Baton Rouge.
Now, Mitchell has committed to play for LSU next fall, giving the Tigers another nose tackle addition to the roster. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) favored LSU with an early prediction from The Bengal Tiger’s Shea Dixon.
Mitchell, a redshirt freshman, has played in nine career games and compiled seven tackles over that span. The 6-foot-6, 340-pound defensive lineman will have three years of college eligibility remaining.
He appeared in eight games throughout his two seasons in Austin, including just four in 2024 to secure a redshirt. He logged four tackles and was in on a tackle for loss in 2024 as part of a Longhorns team that is in the College Football Playoffs.

The connection for the Tigers comes through LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis, who recruited, signed and coached Mitchell when he was on staff as the defensive line coach at Texas.
Mitchell visited LSU to close out the week, and talks with Davis and the staff led to his commitment.
Prior to signing with Texas out of high school, Mitchell was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 233 overall prospect, the No. 26 defensive lineman, and the No. 4 player in New Jersey.
