The chances were slim-to-none for Dallas to make the playoffs anyway.
ARLINGTON, Texas — If, by chance, you still held out hope for the Dallas Cowboys to make the playoffs … we’re sorry. It’s not happening this year.
With the Washington Commanders’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Cowboys were officially eliminated from the playoffs before their Sunday Night Football matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers even kicked off.
The final nail in Dallas’ coffin was a go-ahead touchdown pass from Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels to Jamison Crowder with only five seconds left in the game. Washington beat Philadelphia 36-33.
The chances were slim-to-none for Dallas to make the playoffs anyway. There was less than a 1% shot, according to NFL’s Next Gen Stats. Dallas would have needed win out and needed Washington to lose out.
This is the first season Dallas has not clinched the playoffs since 2020, which was Mike McCarthy’s first season and when Dak Prescott had his gruesome season-ending ankle injury.
The Cowboys went 12-5 for three straight years with Prescott back under center, but alas, another season-ending injury to Prescott only added onto a litany of other injuries to key players (Zack Martin, DeMarvion Overshown, Trevon Diggs just to name a few).
At 6-8, the Cowboys host the Bucs on Sunday Night Football, then wrap the season with Philly and Washington.
