Texas congresswoman who last voted in July found in assisted-living facility

FORT WORTH, Texas (TNND) — Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, is living in an assisted-living facility after not casting a vote on the House floor over the past six months, The Dallas Expressreported Friday.

Taylor Manziel, the assistant executive director of the facility, told the outlet Rep. Granger lives there, according to a video published in the report.

“This is her home,” the man said.

At least two employees reportedly told The Dallas Express the congresswoman lives at the facility. The outlet said it received a tip from one of Rep. Granger’s constituents, who shared the lawmaker was residing in the facility “for some time” after she was found “wandering lost and confused” in a Fort Worth neighborhood.

The outlet noted it visited Rep. Granger’s office and found the door locked with the glass covered. There was nobody inside the office, according to The Dallas Express.

The Dallas Express reportedly asked workers in the building Rep. Granger’s office is in “what happened” to the space. The employees said the congresswoman’s team “packed up” and closed the office before Thanksgiving, according to the outlet.

“Her office appears to be closed for good (she is retiring at the end of the session) with phone calls going unanswered and voice mails not returned,” the report reads.

Rep. Granger’s office did not return a request for comment from The National News Desk on Monday. Rep. Granger, who did not run for reelection this year, has not voted on any measures from the House floor since July.

Tarrant County Republican Party Chairman Bo French reportedly told The Dallas Express a lack of representation for Rep. Granger’s district, which includes parts of the county, is “troubling to say the least.”

“At a time when extraordinarily important votes are happening, including debt ceiling, disaster relief, farm bills and border issues, Kay Granger is nowhere to be found,” the outlet quoted him as saying. “The margin in Congress is razor thin and the lack of a Republican vote representing CD-12 disenfranchises 2 million people. We deserve better.”

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., commented on the news on social media, calling for term limits for federal legislators.

“Kay Granger’s long absence reveals the problem with a Congress that rewards seniority & relationships more than merit & ideas. We have a sclerotic gerontocracy,” Rep. Khanna wrote. “We need term limits. We need to get big money out of politics so a new generation of Americans can run and serve.”
