16-year-old shot and killed in a Grand Prairie neighborhood, police say

 

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1:15 a.m. in the 2400 block of Silverado Trail.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy in a Grand Prairie neighborhood on Sunday.

According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired around 1:15 a.m. in the 2400 block of Silverado Trail.

When officers arrived they found the teenager lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, Grand Prairie police said.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 16-year-old Destiny Eweka. The victim’s family has created a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.

Police said they have not made any arrests. Details about what led up to the shooting are under investigation.

“Based on evidence recovered at the scene, detectives believe the deceased was engaged in high-risk activity when the shooting occurred,” Grand Prairie police said in a news release.

Grand Prairie Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
