After a fire swept through her home, the Rockwall community showed up for Revi Menasche.
ROCKWALL, Texas — When fire swept through Revi Menasche’s home early Monday morning, the owner of a beloved local deli and coffee shop immediately reflected on what’s most important.
“I’m grateful that we’re all alive,” Menasche told WFAA Tuesday. “The situation could have been very different.”
Despite significant damage to her home, Menasche, known locally as “The Bagel Lady,” insists she lost nothing of real value.
“Nothing that mattered,” she said. “I lost nothing that mattered.”
The fire marks another challenge for a family that has faced significant loss. Menasche and her husband lost their daughter a year and a half ago, and her mother-in-law passed away just last month. Through it all, she has continued operating The Bagel Lady, her Rockwall bagel shop, drawing strength from her customers and community.
The community’s response to Monday’s fire was immediate, she said. First responders and regular customers flooded the deli to show support. Local businesses offered to organize fundraisers for home repairs, while one customer, upon recognizing Menasche shopping for replacement clothes at TJ Maxx, paid for her entire purchase.
“They surprise me and show up in ways I never thought they would,” Menasche cried. “I’m so proud to be part of this community.”
Those wishing to support the Menasche family’s recovery can contribute through a GoFundMe campaign established by community members.
For Menasche, the outpouring of support reinforces her deep connection to Rockwall. “Yeah, I’m the Bagel Lady, but I feel like I’m a staple and part of a bigger thing here.”
