San Antonio Tejano musician Flaco Jimenez hospitalized

  

SAN ANTONIO – A Grammy Award-winning musical artist is in the hospital, according to a post on his social media.

San Antonio native and Tejano accordionist Flaco Jimenez was hospitalized on Sunday.

According to his Facebook, Jimenez is “facing a medical hurdle” but is “on the road to recovery.”

The full statement is below:

“Good evening, Flaco fans. Flaco is currently in the hospital facing a medical hurdle—in good spirits but trying to get better. Rest assured, he’s in good hands and on the road to recovery.

While this was a private family matter, word has gotten out, and we wanted to confirm the hospitalization.

Per Flaco’s and the Jimenez family request, this is the only page you will find accurate updates.

Thank you all for your love, support, and understanding during this time.”

The 85-year-old is known for his many achievements in
Tejano music. One of his albums, “Partners,” was selected for the U.S. Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry in 2021.

The Library of Congress called Jimenez “a champion of traditional conjunto music and Tex-Mex culture who also is known for innovation and collaboration with a variety of artists.”

According to the Grammy Awards website, he has won six Grammys, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
