“Sometimes I say, ‘wow, did I do that,’” Aceves said. “It’s hard to believe that I’m doing this.”
As WFAA first reported in 2018, when he was young, Aceves dreamed of becoming an artist, but put those aspirations on hold to raise his family.
Occasionally, he painted for fun and late one night, he was so focused he wasn’t paying attention.
“Sometimes when you get too involved in your art, you forget where you put your brush at, so I accidentally dipped my brush in my coffee and boop!” Aceves told WFAA in 2018. “That’s how it started.”
Rather than wash the coffee from his brush, Aceves painted with it and has been doing it ever since.
He’s not the average joe. He said once he started painting exclusively with coffee, it was grounds for something beautiful.
Since that story first aired, his art has become pretty grande. Aceves has been invited to give annual demonstrations at the State Fair of Texas, his art has been displayed in Italy, Brazil and around the world.
Eventually, he would like to open his own gallery.
“But I can’t keep my own paintings ’cause they sell so fast,” Aceves laughed.
The life he always wanted is now the reality he’s created. At 63, his dream has come true.
“You got to keep on pushing no matter what,” Aceves said. “You’re never too old or never too young to believe dreams do come true.”
Anything can happen as long as hope is brewing.
