Legendary wrestlers The Hardys talk upcoming TNA show in DFW, look back on their 30-year career

Matt and Jeff Hardy, known for helping revolutionize tag team wrestling in the WWE’s Attitude Era, will wrestle at TNA Genesis on Jan. 19 in Garland.

DALLAS — Jeff Hardy didn’t know when he started wrestling whether he would still be doing it 30 years later.

“The way I was living life in my 20s and 30s, if I was living life the way I’m living life now, oh my gosh,” Hardy said. “There’s no telling. I would probably be bigger than John Cena today you know?”

He says he was born with a gift: To be a pro wrestler.

“It just felt so natural and like I was totally created to do this thing,” he said. “And the cool thing about that is I’m still here. I still have life and I feel good.”

Jeff and his brother, Matt Hardy, will be sharing their gift with North Texas on Jan. 19 at TNA Genesis, where they will defend their TNA Tag Team Championship against the Rascalz, Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz.

The Hardys, best known in the WWE in the late ’90s and early ’00s as the Hardy Boyz, are a legendary tag team. They are known for death-defying moments involving ladders, tables and many other objects in their matches. Some of their best-known matches are those with other famous tag teams like Edge and Christian and the Dudley Boyz, and even with more modern tag teams like the Young Bucks later on in places like Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling.

The Rascalz take a great deal of influence from the Hardyz, working in a similar high-flying style the brothers did when they were younger. And both Matt and Jeff Hardy are excited to get into the ring for the first time with them in Garland.

“I think for the Rascalz this is their dream matchup,” Matt said. “They both grew up as big fans of myself and Jeff. I think they emulated a lot of what they did. When they were young kids, they jumped off the furniture and broke beds and couches and what not doing swantons and leg drops, so them is an exciting moment for them for sure.”

But it’s also an exciting moment for the Hardys, he added, as the Rascalz remind the brothers of themselves when they were younger.

“They’re guys who kind of changed the game,” Matt said. “They’re very high-risk, they’re extremely acrobatic and athletic.”

Additionally, on the card, Joe Hendry will challenge Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE, for the TNA Championship, and Ace Austin will challenge Moos for the TNA X-Division Championship.

The event starts at 6 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. For tickets and more information, click here.
