Buc-ee’s will break ground on a new travel center Jan. 29 in San Marcos, Texas.
The chain—known for the “world’s cleanest bathrooms,” fresh food and beaver mascot—will celebrate the start of construction with a ceremony attended by local leaders including San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and County Judge Ruben Becerra, among others, it said.
- Buc-ee’s is No. 118 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.
The new travel center is at the southwest corner of Yarrington Road and Interstate 35. The 74,000-square-foot store will offer 128 fueling positions. Inside, it will sell items including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries, as well as “thousands of snack, meal and drink options,” Buc-ee’s said.
“The Buc-ee’s mantra is ‘exceed expectations’; this San Marcos location is a special step for us in that regard. The San Marcos store will help us provide the ultimate Buc-ee’s experience to all I-35 travelers, north and southbound,” said Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development Stan Beard.
The San Marcos travel center will bring at least 200 full-time jobs to the area, Buc-ee’s said.
Founded in 1982, Lake Jackson, Texas-based Buc-ee’s now has 35 stores across Texas, including the world’s largest convenience store, as well as 15 locations in other states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri and Colorado. Buc-ee’s has also announced plans to open in new states including Arkansas and Ohio.
