AUSTIN (KXAN) — The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) database got an upgrade.
The database, which was built by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), is a free, voluntary registry that gives emergency planners and responders information to help them better prepare for and respond to disasters.
“By modernizing the STEAR database, we are giving local communities additional tools to identify and assist individuals with specific needs more efficiently and effectively,” said TDEM Chief Nim Kidd. “Any Texan with medical, access, or functional needs is encouraged to register for STEAR, informing local responders of their individual needs in the event of a disaster.”
According to the state, the upgraded STEAR database includes:
- New URL
- Enhanced design to simplify navigation and data management
- Improved functionality to streamline operations at the local level
- Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities with visualization tools
- Improved data validation to ensure accurate and up-to-date contact information for those registered
- Improved data quality and consistency
