After transferring from Alabama to Texas, Amari Niblack back in portal

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Longhorns tight end Amari Niblack has entered the transfer portal after one year with the program.

Niblack played on special teams for the Longhorns and was the third tight end behind Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis. He caught five passes for 33 yards in nine games.

He was on the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given to college football’s most outstanding tight end, after coming over from the Alabama Crimson Tide. He played two seasons in Tuscaloosa before transferring to Texas, catching 21 passes for 342 yards and five touchdowns. He had a nice year in 2023 with 20 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns, including a 39-yard touchdown reception against the Longhorns.

Niblack was a 4-star recruit according to 247Sports out of high school.

Texas might look at the transfer portal to help fill the void left at tight end with Helm and Davis on the way out. The Longhorns signed two tight ends as part of the 2025 recruiting class, Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend, and currently have four underclassmen on the roster.
