Owl right: Screech owl rescued after getting stuck in basketball hoop post in North Texas

A screech owl in North Texas recently found itself in a tough spot before crews came to the rescue.

DALLAS — You could say a North Texas bird rescue group gave a hoot when they recently rescued a screech owl that’d gotten stuck in a basketball post.

A homeowner called Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, a bird rehabilitation center based in Allen, after hearing an eastern screech owl that appeared distressed and finding it stuck in a basketball hoop post.

Crews from the center responded and were able to free the owl after several tries. Blackland Prairie Raptor Center says the owl was given a health check and released back into the wild.

“After taking a moment to gather itself, the resilient owl flew off into the night, likely reuniting with its family,” a spokesperson for Blackland Prairie Raptor Center said in a post. “This story highlights the importance of community awareness and swift action in helping our local wildlife thrive.”

Blackland Prairie Raptor center is a nonprofit started in 2004 as a rehabilitation center for birds of prey, according to their website.
