ETAs are a pre-travel authorization form needed to fly to the UK. This includes the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Here’s how it will work:

  • All U.S. citizens need to apply through the UK Government website or through the app.
  • Upload a photo of your passport and photo of yourself.
  • Answer various questions about your trip.

This process takes about 20 minutes to complete. There is a fee of $12.25 to submit the form.

It takes about three days to get approved, but UK officials warn it could take longer. Once you’re approved, it is good for two years.
