Fort Worth police release body cam video from 2 police shootings

New body camera footage shows how Fort Worth officers responded in two separate police shootings on the same day.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police Friday released body camera footage from two police shootings that occurred on the same day.

Footage from the first incident showed officers responding to an apartment complex in the 8500 block of John T. White Road Jan. 15.

A 911 caller told dispatchers a man was pointing guns at residents.

“Does he have any weapons? Yes, one. He has a gun?, Yes, yes, yes,” a caller told 911 dispatchers. Another caller said, “This guy is pointing a gun at our residents.”

Body camera footage showed an officer repeatedly ordering 42-year-old Deron Morris to drop his gun.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said the officer fired her gun at Morris, but the shots missed. The body cam video shows Morris moving closer to the officer despite her commands for him to stop and maintain his distance.

“I do believe the rounds that were fired may have prevented him from turning and firing,” Noakes said.

Later that day, officers responded to a mother’s 911 call from a home on Westgate Drive. When officers arrived at the home, officials say they saw a mother repeatedly begging her son not to hit her anymore.

“Don’t hit me no more. Please don’t hit me no more,” she told dispatchers.

Noakes said officers arrived to find 28-year-old Brandon Adame at the front door, threatening his mother. Moments later, body camera footage showed officers kicking in the back door after being told Adame had a knife before officers fatally shot Adame.

“We don’t have any animosity to the police, to the fire department, to the paramedics that were here during that terrible incident,” said Adame’s uncle, Victor Adame.

The family shared that Brandon suffered from mental health issues and started a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses.

Victor encouraged others with loved ones in mental health crises to check on them regularly to make sure they are getting the help they need.

“Remember Brandon for his laughter and his kindness,” Victor added.

Both shootings remain under investigation by the Major Case Unit and Internal Affairs.
