Farmers Branch, Addison police officers shoot, injure suspect, officials say

 

Officers from both the Farmer’s Branch and Addison police departments fired shots at a suspect near Addison Town Center, injuring him, officials said.

ADDISON, Texas — Police officers shot and injured a man in Addison overnight Tuesday, police said in a press release. 

Officers from both the Addison and Farmers Branch police departments were in the 4000 block of Belt Line Road in Addison around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday attempting to locate a suspect previously involved in narcotics activity there, the Farmers Branch Police Department said in a press release. 

Addison police officers were assisting Farmers Branch police, the release stated.

Officers made contact with a vehicle they believed to be related to the investigation, the release stated, and police asked the male driver to step out of the vehicle and a confrontation occurred.

Famers Branch police said that the suspect allegedly fired a weapon at police, and officers from both agencies fired back at the suspect, hitting him, according to the release. The suspect was transported to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, the release said. 

A Farmers Branch police officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital and later released, the department said. 

The Texas Rangers are conducting a criminal investigation into the incident and Farmer’s Branch police will conduct an internal investigation to ensure department policy was followed, the release states.
