A $3.5 billion master-planned community could get an H-E-B grocery store.
The San Antonio-based retailer recently purchased roughly 27 acres at the southeast corner of FM 3433 and U.S. Route 287 in Wise County, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to Dallas Business Journal on Jan. 27.
Other media outlets have reported that H-E-B bought the land to build a store at a later date, although no timetable was offered. Rhome City Council on Jan. 23 approved a development agreement with the company . After the vote, Rhome Mayor Kenneth Crenshaw said the company would build in the near future, the Wise County Messenger reported.
The site is at the edge of the Reunion community, a 3,600-acre development slated to have more than 10,000 homes. PMB Capital Investments LP is developing the multibillion-dollar community and has brought on builders such as Perry Homes, UnionMain Homes and American Legends for the first phase.
The Rhome land purchase is just the latest North Texas investment by H-E-B as the retail giant, which had 2023 revenue of $43.6 billion, expands across the region. H-E-B announced earlier this month that it bought 10 acres at the southeast corner for its first store within Dallas city limits. And last year the grocery chain, which is known for its shrewd site selection, purchased roughly 25 acres at the eastern edge of Mesquite, along I-20 in Kaufman County.
Overall, H-E-B has expanded to 10 stores in the core counties of Dallas-Fort Worth and has more under construction in places including Forney, Rockwall, Murphy and Hurst-Euless-Bedford.
