Movie Tavern Bedford will close after twenty years in business, the theater announced.
BEDFORD, Texas — Movie Tavern Bedford is closing its doors after 20 years in business, the business announced on Facebook Sunday.
The theater will host its final showings through 8:30 p.m. Jan 31, according to a Facebook post from the theater. Three other locations of the theater chain will remain in DFW after the closure, Movie Tavern Hulen, Movie Tavern West 7th, and Movie Tavern Denton.
The Bedford location occupies space in The Shops on Central off State Highway 121.
Movie Tavern is owned by Marcus Corporation, a Wisconsin-based company that currently operates 79 theater locations in the U.S., according to the Marcus Corporation website. The company also owns hotels and restaurants.
In response to customers asking why the Bedford location is closing, theater management said Marcus routinely evaluates the financial performance and viability of each location and determines the Bedford location should close.
“We’ve been the backdrop to your first dates, the place you cheered on your favorite heroes, and where you found solace in a good story, not to mention being your curbside popcorn provider during Covid,” the post reads. “While the doors may be closing, the memories will never fade.”
Hundreds of moviegoers shared their experiences working and visiting the theater in the comments on the post, reminiscing on first dates and first jobs.
The theater will be showing “Flight Risk,” “Mufasa: The Lion King,” “Wolf Man” and “One of Them Days” in its final day of operation. For a full schedule of showtimes, go here.
