Funeral services for Dallas officer killed in off-duty crash

 

The officer died after a motorcycle crash near Royse City earlier this month.

ROCKWALL, Texas — Dallas police officer Gabriel Bixby, who was killed in a motorcycle crash off duty earlier this month, will be honored with funeral services Tuesday.

Services begin at 11 a.m. at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall and the Dallas Police Department will be livestreaming the services on their Facebook page .

Bixby had served with the Dallas Police Department since 2018 and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

The 29-year-old officer was driving his motorcycle  on State Highway 276 just south of Union Valley in Hunt County when a Honda Accord that was waiting to turn from the highway failed to yield and turned in front of Bixby’s motorcycle, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Bixby was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Accord, Frank James, 85, of Royse City, was taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center, officials said.
