Governor Abbott mobilizes emergency resources ahead of Texas flood threat

AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott has instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to prepare additional state emergency response resources in anticipation of potential heavy rainfall and flash flooding across parts of Texas on Wednesday and Thursday. The governor emphasized the importance of monitoring roadways and accessing flood information through TexasFlood.org.

The National Weather Service has indicated a risk of heavy rainfall for the eastern half of Texas, with several inches expected to cause flooding in North, Central, and East Texas. Severe weather, including large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes, may accompany the rainfall. Texans are advised to stay informed with local forecasts.

In response to the governor’s directive, the Texas Division of Emergency Management has readied resources such as swiftwater rescue boat squads and urban search and rescue teams from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, including Texas Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2. These preparations are in addition to resources readied last week, stated the source.

Governor Abbott urged Texans to follow local officials’ instructions, create an emergency plan, and gather an emergency supply kit. Residents can find flood information at TexasFlood.org, safety tips at TexasReady.gov, road conditions at DriveTexas.org, and general preparedness advice at tdem.texas.gov/prepare.
