The family of 62-year-old Ricky Langs said he was on the phone with his cousin when the possible road rage shooting that took his life began.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Ricky Langs’s family sat around the living room and browsed through old photos.
They reminisced on his last birthday celebration and all the ways he made people laugh.
Langs, a dad and grandfather, was shot while driving in Forth Worth Monday evening. Fort Worth police said around 6:40 p.m. they were called to the scene at Loop 820 East and Meadowbrook. The 62-year-old was found unconscious in his gray sedan.
Police initially said they believed his murder was caused by a road rage incident.
“He was everything to us,” his sister Melody Morrissette told WFAA. “It’s still not real, and I’m still in disbelief. I want justice because he didn’t deserve it at all.”
Langs’s cousin, Del Williams, told WFAA they were on the phone with each other like they often are. They were having a deep conversation about family and good memories.
Suddenly, Langs mentioned a vehicle was closely driving behind his car.
“He said, ‘It’s this dude all the way on my bumper. Every time I move, he comes up.’ He was like, ‘Dude, get back,’” Williams recalled of their conversation. “He’s like ‘Cousin, I’ll just call you when I get home.’ We hung up the phone, and that’s the last time I talked to him.”
Police say Langs was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
His mother, Bobbie Wofford, is struggling to cope with the loss of her oldest child.
“That’s my baby, and I’m going to miss him being around, talking to me, calling me ‘Miss Bobbie,’” Wofford said.
“Whoever did this to my baby, you need to come forward. If you’ve got a good heart, come forward turn yourself in and let us know why you killed my son.”
Police haven’t released any suspect information, and there have been no arrests.
