Nexstar Media Group to air some Texas Rangers games on KBVO in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Fans of the Texas Rangers in the Austin area will have a selection of Texas Rangers games to watch this season without having to subscribe to a cable or streaming package.

The club announced Wednesday a broadcasting rights agreement with Nexstar Media Group to make 15 Rangers regular season games available on KBVO. Most games will be Friday at 7:05 p.m. from Globe Life Field in Arlington with the first against the Boston Red Sox on March 28. There will also be four spring training games on KBVO.

This is the first time the Rangers will be available over the air since the 2014 season.

“We were really focused and concentrating on the fans’ ability to watch the games,” said Neil Leibman, chairman of the Rangers Sports Network. “We want all the fans who desire to see us play well this season, to watch us and enjoy us.”

After winning the World Series in 2023, the Rangers took a step backward last season finishing third in the American League West division with a 78-84 record. The club’s notable offseason acquisitions include re-signing right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to a 3-year contract, signing catcher Kyle Higashioka and outfielder Joc Pederson to 2-year deals and trading for slugging corner infielder Jake Burger with the Miami Marlins.

Elvis Andrus, a 2-time all-star with the Rangers in a 12-year tenure from 2009-2020, will be part of the pregame and postgame shows after retiring following the 2023 season. He said he’s enjoying retirement but still wants to be part of the game, and this gig gives him the perfect opportunity to give insight from a player’s perspective.

“I can be the bridge for the players and channel anything from them to the fans,” he said. “There are a lot of great things coming up and I’m excited to be part of it.”

The agreement is in partnership with Gray Media and games will air on stations throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
