Authorities said an unknown number contacted the man with his personal information, including his social security number, and demanded $5,000 from him or his family would be hurt.

The man complied and wrote a Western Union check for $2,500 to an individual in the Dominican Republic.

After the transaction, authorities said the man received a phone call from an unknown number claiming he still owed $1,500 to him, and if he didn’t send over money — he would show up at his house.

Things escalated more for the victim when he received a video via text message of three males with masks and guns, authorities said.

To make matters worse, the victim noticed unauthorized deposits of $1,500 from his PayPal account and $500 from his Cash App account to another account.

Authorities said they recommend hanging up and calling law enforcement if you receive a similar call. If you have been a victim, contact BCSO at 210-335-6000 or email BCSOTIPS@bexar.org.
