AUSTIN (KXAN) — As new Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer fills out his staff for next season, he’s looking at one of the Longhorns’ top assistants, according to reports.
According to Clarence Hill Jr., of AllDLLS.com, the Cowboys will interview Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice for the same role Saturday. Hill said the team is picking between either Choice or New Orleans Saints running backs coach Derrick Foster.
Choice has been a key piece in the Longhorns’ success under head coach Steve Sarkisian. He’s helped develop several Texas running backs into some of the best in the country including Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson and Jonathon Brooks. This season, Quintrevion Wisner rushed for 1,064 yards to average 4.8 yards per carry.
Choice is also listed as an associate head coach for the offense. After his 6-year NFL career (three with the Cowboys), Choice was a coaching intern in Dallas before moving on to North Texas and his alma mater Georgia Tech.

He’s also one of the program’s best recruiters, helping bring in running backs CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson and James Simon, as well as wide receiver Ryan Wingo. At his previous job at Georgia Tech, he also landed running back Jahmyr Gibbs, now a star in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.
Former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus will take over the defense for the Cowboys with former Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams taking the reins of the offense. Dallas is filling out the assistant roles with Dave Borgonzi, Aaron Whitecotton and Andre Curtis on the defensive side.
