Is Texas the Future of Film?- Reform Austin

A proposal for a new bill in Texas which would come with a $498 million proposal would more than double the current state’s investment in the film and tv industry.

The bill intends to be an incentive to renovate and improve the Texas entertainment industry, an incentive quite bountiful, which not only would be a groundbreaking advancement in the image industry but would also remarkably increase the number of jobs, favoring all Texans from all cities, as reported by CHRON.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick instructed that when the bill gets approved, the budget would come divided into two parts: the first part accounts for $450 million in additional tax credits, which are incentives provided by the government to reduce the amount of taxes owed. Additionally, $48 million would serve as funding for TV ads and small films, more than $10 million is granted to the Texas Music Incubator Fund and will be distributed from the overall fund.

This investment would have prosperous results, Texas state will receive $4 in return for every $1 previously invested.

The Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program (TMIIIP) established in 2005, was intended to enhance Texas’ economy by its contribution to film and television production. TMIIIP was crucial in promoting the creation of large-scale independent films, TV shows, commercials, and other media projects, therefore, the program is set to receive an increase in funding which will be brought by the state’s general revenue fund. $200 million will be granted to the incentive program. A remarkable increase of the $22.5 million designated for the previous period.

Actors Campaign

Texan actors have come together, forming a union to push for the incentives, their strategy to achieve this bill has consisted in a remarkable marketing campaign, where various well-known actors who are important figures in the representation of Texas within the movie and tv industry ask themselves: Why should Texas movies be made anywhere but Texas?

A short-film with an extraordinary cast was uploaded to the youtube platform campaigning for the investment in question, in which its description True To Texas wrote: “Filming in Texas isn’t just about showcasing our stunning landscapes—it’s about creating jobs, boosting local economies, and building a thriving industry right here at home. Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, and Renée Zellweger shine a spotlight on how Texas can lead the way in film production in this short film. Let’s keep the cameras rolling and the economy growing—because everything’s bigger (and better) in Texas!”

In addition to that short-film, Good For Texas posted an ingenious youtube video as well. Both videos intend the same goal, to turn this state into the new Hollywood.

“Moving Hollywood into Texas isn’t political, it’s a business thing”. Texan actor Dennis Quaid said.If you support the Texas Film Incentive, Follow this link to find your State Representative and let them know you do!
