Fort Worth Museum of Science and History steps into the future with state-of-the-art theater

The screen, powered by Cosm, is the only one of its kind inside a museum anywhere in the world

FORT WORTH, Texas — Sometimes the best way to appreciate history is by looking to the future.

“We are literally the only one of its kind in the world,” said Regina Faden, president of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

Faden said no other museum has a screen as high-tech as the one inside the Omni Theater.

For many North Texas kids visiting the museum’s old IMAX theater was a rite of passage. It was a mesmerizing tradition that ended when the theater closed about five years ago.

Those kids, now parents, longed to share the experience with their own children, but couldn’t.

“They were absolutely hungry to get back into the theater,” Faden said.

Over the course of the past 18 months, the museum put a plan in motion to reopen the theater. Work was done to upgrade the theater with a more modern, immersive screen.

When it finally re-opened in December guests couldn’t believe their eyes.

The new screen was better than ever. Infinitely better.

Built by the same people who created the viral sensation Cosm at the Grandscape, it is one of the highest-quality screens in the world. The display features 8k resolution, providing a crystal clear, radiant and breathtaking picture.

It was built to immerse guests in the environment. If it doesn’t leave them speechless, it’ll surely limit their vocabulary to just one word.

“The general reaction is, ‘Wow,’” Faden said.
