Large pothole damages several vehicles, prompting U.S. 287 to close, officials say

 

A large pothole in the northbound lanes of U.S. 287 forced the highway to close after several vehicles were damaged, officials said.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A large pothole disabled several vehicles and prompted U.S. 287 to close in Arlington Tuesday morning, officials said.

Arlington police were alerted to a large pothole around 6 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of U.S. 287 near Sublett Road in Arlington, police said in a press release. All lanes remained closed at 9:45 a.m., according to TxDOT.

The pothole caused multiple vehicles to get flat tires after they drove over it, the release states. No one was seriously injured, police said. A few vehicles had to be towed, according to the release.

The pothole is located in a major construction zone, the release states. Both TxDOT and the construction company were notified of the pothole. The company blocked off the roadway and is working to repair the pothole, the release states.
