SAN ANTONIO – A 7-year-old girl was “seriously bitten” in the face by a neighbor’s dog, according to Animal Care Services.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. in the 5900 block of Jerome Road.
According to ACS, the girl was playing with the dog in a shared backyard.
The dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier, is now in ACS custody for a state-mandated quarantine.
According to ACS, the dog’s owner faces multiple citations, including Friday’s incident and failing to provide a legally required rabies vaccination and microchip.
The child’s stepfather told KSAT the dog belonged to his sister. He said the girl is expected to be OK.
A San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson said the girl was transported to a local hospital. Her condition remains unclear.
“This incident must serve as a critical reminder that children should always be supervised around dogs, regardless of breed or familiarity,” ACS said in a statement to KSAT. “Responsible pet care and vigilance are essential to keeping our communities — especially our children — safe.”
