Can you buy beer before the big game? Here’s what Texas law says

Beer is a popular accompaniment for football, but you might be disappointed if you head to the store at the wrong time.

TEXAS, USA — Before the big game begins, all eyes are on the refreshments.

Of course, fried food, chicken wings and nachos go down a lot better with a cold beverage. But if you head to a grocery store in Texas at the wrong time, you’ll likely go home empty-handed.

Beer and wine sales can only be sold in Texas convenience and grocery stores from 10 a.m. to midnight on Sunday.

State law requires that liquor stores remain closed today, as they always are on Sundays.

Texas’ Sunday restrictions, known as “blue laws,” date back to 1935. The ban wasn’t limited to just booze. For years, you couldn’t buy pots, pans and washing machines on Sundays — at least, not until 1985. And many other states still ban the sale of cars on Sundays.

If you plan to drink while watching the big game, make sure to find a safe ride home
