The Mavs will be back in action Monday night, but they’ll be missing a key player.
DALLAS — Watch the Dallas Mavericks vs. Sacramento Kings at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 on WFAA. Here’s a breakdown on how to tune in – and guarantee you get the clearest signal possible of the broadcast.
The Dallas Mavericks (28-25) face the Sacramento Kings (26-26) on Monday following a team-altering trade deadline for both teams.
Both teams traded away their franchise players. Luka Doncic was sent to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie, and De’Aaron Fox was sent to San Antonio for Zach LaVine and a haul of future draft picks.
While both teams look vastly different post-trade deadline, the Kings have a fully healthy roster, while the Mavs’ injury woes deepen.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that newly-acquired Maverick Anthony Davis will be out “multiple weeks” after a non-contact left adductor strain. Davis isn’t the only new asset on the injury report. Caleb Martin, who the Mavs snagged from the Philadelphia 76ers for Quentin Grimes , is listed as out, and Max Christie is questionable with a right shoulder strain.
With P.J. Washington questionable and bigs Dereck Lively II and Dwight Powell out Monday, Mavs fans can expect Daniel Gafford and Naji Marshall to start in the backcourt. As for bigs off the bench, Dallas will turn to newly acquired Kessler Edwards, second-year prospect Olivier Maxence Prosper, and a two-way G League pickup from the South Bay Lakers, Kylor Kelley.
Dallas’ height disparity will be a sore spot against the Kings — now led by Damontis Sabonis — regarding rebounds. Sabonis tops the league leaderboard with 14.3 rebounds per game. Lithuanian center Jonas Valančiūnas will come off the bench as the Kings’ backup center. Valančiūnas has averaged 8.1 boards per game in just under 20 minutes.
The Mavs will turn to Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson to pick up the brunt of the scoring while also relying on strong performances from Marshall and Gafford.
